Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

New Years Resolutions

Putting this here so I don't forget. I'm also fiddling around with getting a different CSS for my journal. I love the old one, but the writing space is too small for my liking.

EDIT: Stuff with a strike through it means it's completed or I'm being successful in that feat. Most of it probably won't have a strike through it until the end of the year to make sure I keep up with all the resolutions.

Anyway, in the year 2011 I aim to:

Draw something everyday, even if it is just a lame sketch

Finish at least one of my stories

Do all my homework in an awesome, timely manner

Write essays for grants every weekend

~~Work hard at my job and in school~~

Workout when it's warm enough and when the high school track is completed

Submit much more art to DA [more journals optional]

~~Buy a tablet~~

Learn about coloring, shading, lineart, and drawing comics in both traditional and digital medium

Wear nicer outfits more

~~Buy things for myself more~~

Spend less on food

~~Have more fun~~

Read many more books, ~~and give David that magnet I owe him~~

I think that's it. Sometimes putting it on the internet entices me to actually do these things.
